The Cadian 101st Armored Regiment, deployed to the Torus system, came into contact with Chaos and greenskin forces while there. They pursued the Chaos forces while ignoring and taunting the greenskin Warboss, Stoopedhik. The Blood Angels 3rd company, led by Tycho, took offense to this, declaring their intention to destroy the 101st for 'heresy'. After contact was lost with a platoon at Outpost 77-D-3, sections of the 5th company, supported by elements of the command company moved to the outpost in force to determine the cause.
When they arrived, the outpost was destroyed, and the loyal Guardsmen there slaughtered by the Blood Angels still there. The Blood Angels immediately rode out to meet the 101st.
First blood went to the 101st, as a pair of Landspeeders that had raced ahead to fire ineffectively on the Chimeras of the 101st were brought down by the multilasers of the Chimeras and the cannon fire of the Leman Russ "Rampager". Despite these losses, the Blood Angels pushed forward, firing their meltaguns and rendering the Rampager's demolisher cannon inoperable. Sergeant Dero's stormtroopers disembarked to cover the Rampager and allow its extraction, and while they fought valiantly, they were killed by Tycho and a Deathwatch Kill-team accompanying him.
Despite these losses, and the further damaging of the Rampager by a Land Raider and the medicae Chimera "Kaeti" by the Space Marines, the 101st continued to push into the outpost, destroying a pair of Rhinos with fire from Commander Ventrell's Leman Russ "Blackheart" and the Executioner "Fire God". Sergeant Bastonne, Hero of Cadia, disembarked his squad from the damaged Chimera, and with suppressing fire form the Blackheart killed most of a Space Marine squad threatening their left flank.
The true heroes of the day were the crew of the Rampager, though. despite the death of their commander and the loss of half their weapon systems, they stood their ground as the Land Raider advanced toward them, before firing their remaining multimelta and breached the containment field of the fusion reactor, utterly destroying the steel beast. After the destruction of their transports, the Blood Angels fled, abandoning the outpost and evacuating on their waiting transports.
Good game Dave.
