Tacticon 2010 is almost upon us! In three short weeks (from the date of this post ) one of the two largest wargaming conventions in Colorado will be held at the Red Lion hotel near I-225 and Parker Road! denvergamers.org/Tickets will be $24 for the weekend pass for the Con, and each event has a small fee for entry. I took the liberty of looking through the pamphlet for any 40k-related events and there are going to be three of them: #1) 40k Kill Team Tournament - FRI 7:00 PM - 12:00 AM - $3"In the grim future there is only small skirmishes! This tournament will use the rules for Kill Teams published in the Warhammer 40k "Battle Missions" Book [Page 90]. Players are required to bring a 200 point force from their Codex. Players need to pick 3 figures to receive Universal Special Rules before the 1st Round and must be on the army list provided to the tournament Organizer and each opponent. More information and questions can be directed too gobbosevents.blogspot.com/ or by email to TheGobbo@gmail.com" I emailed this Organizer with about 7 serious questions regarding Kill Team since the rules are so vague and appear to have not been play-tested. I will post his answers here when I get a response. #2) 40k Rogue Trader Tournament - SAT 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM - $10"Judge:Tony Scott, 1850 points, standard force organization. Prizes will be awarded for Best Overall, Best Sportsman, Best Appearance, and Best General. Scenarios will be largely based on those found in the 40K rule-book. The majority of painting points will be awarded for having fully painted and based armies, with few additional points for exceptional aspects. For further details check www.fcwarparty.com Beginner Limit 60 players." #3) 40k Apocalypse 6k per player - SUN 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM - $3"Judge:Pete Turner, This will be a large apocalypse game. Bring up to 6000 points of your favorite Shroom cloud generating, Marine smashing, Tau swatting, Nid squishin, take all comers goodies… Or whatever you feel like fielding from your 40k arsenal. More details prior to the con at www.Thirdfatecreations.com under the Events: Tacticon 2010 Sidebar. Intermediate Limit 12 Players." ------------ While I'm not sure which army I'll use for the 1850 tournament, I know EXACTLY what I'm going to use for my Kill Team, and no, it does not include the Doom of Mal'Antai with Eternal Warrior Dmitry! And, should I attend the Apoc game, I've got 6k of Orks that are dying to bring their Stompa buddy! So anyways, I was just wondering who was interested in going and representing the War College, and yes, this means at least your Kill Team must be painted!!!

Hey, I wasn't goin to say doom, my kill team list would be a Ravenwing attack squadron with 2 plasmaguns and a multi-melta attack bike. The seargent would have furious charge, one of the plasmagunners would have feel no pain, and the attack bike would have eternal warrior. Also people please post what you would use too.

DAY ONE (Friday) So Amy and I participated in the Kill Team tournament held at 7pm on Friday. It was five 45-minute rounds of the Kill Team mission from the Battle Missions book, and it was an absolute blast! Here's what the room looked like before the event: (click to enlarge) And here's what the room looked like during the event: (click to enlarge) And here are some shots of some games in progress: (click to enlarge) (This Thunderwolf Cav Kill Team took 1st place, and this Space Wolves Venerable Dreadnought took 2nd place) At the end of the day, my Kill Team of five Lootas and five Ork Warbikes went completely undefeated, except when I forfeited to Amy in the second round as a courtesy. I took third place and won a kick-ass all-in-one template for fantasy/40k! More to come after tomorrow's 1850 Rogue Trader Tournament...

Toni, for the Kill Team tournament, second place got a template and the Thousand Son book/omnibus as well, and first place got a $15 gift certificate to the game store in Broomfield that the event organizer was from (which was usable in the dealer's room). DAY TWO (Saturday) Today, Amy and I played in the 1,850 point Rogue Trader tournament from 9am to 5:30pm. It was a three-round tournament, and the competition was brutal. Here are pictures of all of the armies that were present. If someone wants to count the spread, you're more than welcome to as I'm too tired right now to do it (by spread, I mean how many chaos, how many space wolves, how many marines, etc). Note that the Chaos that are standing around the burning houses are actually Space Wolves. Also, my army is not pictured, and there were one or two players who's armies I couldn't get pictures of due to time constraints. I designed my list to be more of an elite-hunter army, as I was honestly expecting to fight Marines or Marine Equivalents all day, and unfortunately for me, that wasn't *exactly* what happened. I started the tournament with a max-point massacre against the beige-primed Deathwing army above, scoring 54/54 points. I was just grinding away at Terminators wherever I encountered them and when I looked up, they were all gone. I was easily below half strength at the end of the battle, but that's to be expected against an army that can shoot you twice at 24" with a S4 AP5 weapon, and the model wielding it has a 2+/5+ save. It totally helped me though when my opponent decided NOT to deep-strike ANYTHING. Go-go 6" moving Termies! It was a fairly easy win. In the second round, I was seated at the FIRST table (it's usually an honor to be seated at table 1 in a 40k tournament) and I played against another player who scored max points, an Ork player (the one with the wide red vehicles and over-sized battlewagon). I drew that game and scored 22 to his 32 points. It was a bloody battle, and it was also one that saw my Trygon deep-strike off the table and most of my reserves come in too late. My Genestealers won me the game though, outflanking on to his single objective and tying the game. By the way, Nobs vs Swarmlord = Nobs win. In the third round, I was seated at the 10th table, and I played a Tau player who had two Kroot units (one green-ish and one blue-ish, the main army was soft blue with orange details), and proceeded to eat plasma AND roll nothing but stupid-ass ones all game, and lost scoring 12 points to 34 points. I took 32nd out of 44 and Amy took 42nd out of 44. And at 9am tomorrow we start the 6,000 points-per-player Apocalypse battle! More to come after the Apoc game of data-sheet goodness...

Actually Eric, you got 44th out of 44, and the worst sportsmanship score at the tournament with TWO -2's. I don't know what you did but you really pissed some people off. Remember, at the beginning of the tournament the organizer said "DO NOT mark people down or give them extra points unless they were EXCEPTIONALLY nice or EXCEPTIONALLY rude. And even then, you'll have to come up to us and explain yourself or we'll ignore your changes". All I gotta say is next time, try to be calm and polite, and you'll do fine. As for the results of the tournament, here's a link to them. For some stupid reason, they are not sorted whatsoever. Oh, and Eric, PLEASE tell me you kept your opponent's army lists. I'd like copies of them please! Oh, and here's a picture of that combi-template I won from the Kill Team tournament. DAY THREE (Sunday) On Sunday at 9am, Amy and I played in the Apocalypse Mega Battle which the only details that we were given was that it was 6,000 points per player. When we walked in, there was a huge Tau defensive station centered on a huge table, about 6'x16'. We were told that our deployment zones started just outside the fortress, and that all of the Tau terrain pieces that were out were in fact destructable with multiple structure points and shields on each. Then, after the "attackers" (which was everyone that showed up aside from the organizer and his friend) deployed, we were told that the Tau reinforcements would be coming on behind us as they please. AND THEN, the organizer proceeded to tell some teenager that he could not proxy a Rhino as a Vindicator to have the third one for the Line Breaker Squadron datasheet, even though they have the exact same chassis, all while he and his friend were using a scratch-built "fortress", Manta, Tiger Sharks, Barracudas, and Orca's, and often with personally designed datasheets (not official in any way whatsoever). I proceeded to yell fairly loudly about how that was bullshit and that he was using the Rhino as a Vindicator and that was that. Later, it turned out that Amy and I had both forgotten some minis at the house, so I came back and brought him a vindicator just to make sure everything was kosher. I spent the first two turns Dave Raging, and didn't even bother putting out about 3,000 of my 6,000 points because I had had enough of this ego-stroking Apocalypse game. Every 15 minutes or so, some new "rule" or "policy" or "unit" would come into play that would severely hamper the "attacker's" chances of any sort of victory. It was not fun at all, and I was seconds away from yelling "F THIS" really loud, picking up my models, asking for a refund, and going home. Maybe it was a long weekend and I was tired, or maybe it was just really unfair. Right as I was about to do that, however, I had my Stompa in assault with some parts of the fortress, just to kill off some of the waaaaay overpowered turrets that were firing Strength D 10" large blasts as they had multiple structure points, and a 4+ shield save that every Tau structure on the table also had. I killed one of them and went to assault another, and ended up causing 12 Structure Points of damage to the main fortress (which removed the turrets I had assaulted). Right about then, the organizer came up to me and brought me to the prize room because I had "won" the event. He explained that the whole point of the battle was to do as much structural damage to the Tau station as possible, and that this was an ongoing event they'd run from con to con, where each time they laid out the structure with as many missing parts as the other con-goers destroyed. Honestly, if this information had been made public in the first round, not only would our side have won sooner but I probably wouldn't have been the one to "win". And so here's a picture of the kick-ass prize I won, plus some pictures of the event! And the winning strike: And that's it! I hope you guys enjoyed the pictures, and I hope this gets a lot of you interested in going to GenghisCon in February or Tacticon next year!

Yeah, I won a chain-mail dice bag, which will be sweet to use for my roleplaying dice! I did have a lot of fun at the con! I can't wait to get in some 2k games at Attactix next week! And unfortunately, Tacticon cost me a ton more than I thought it would, so I am not going to make it to NDK.

SWEET! Can you please bring them this friday, or write them down in a private message for me, especially the Razor Wolves list? Thanks! and how the hell did i get the lowest sportsmanship? am i just that much of a bad-ass? -_- Uh, I think it has to do with rules issues, from what I heard of your second first game where you were on the table behind me...
